Danube Cruise in Budapest: Evening, Dinner or Unlimited Drinks?

Updated October 13, 2026 · 6 min read

Three crew members in black T-shirts with a Prosecco slogan raise glasses of sparkling wine towards the Parliament on the far bank

For most visitors who drink, the Unlimited Prosecco, Beer, Aperol & Limoncello Spritz Cruise is the one to book: €24.80, 75 minutes, 50,130 reviews at 4.8 stars. If you do not drink, or want the cheapest way onto the river, the By Night Sightseeing Cruise with Welcome Drink costs €13.36 and the Parliament Panorama Cruise €12. A dinner cruise is a different evening altogether, €49 to €110.

The unlimited-drinks boats

The most-reviewed cruise includes a welcome glass of Hungarian sparkling wine, refills of sparkling wine, beer, Aperol, Hugo, Rossini and Limoncello spritzers, plus lemonade and water. Commentary is recorded English. Drinks are self-service at the bar, and premium spirits and mixed cocktails are not part of the package.

Similar boats exist and differ in small ways. The Cruise Unlimited Aperol and Prosecco departs from Pier 9 at Petőfi tér and lists a heated interior. The Evening Cruise with Unlimited Prosecco, Wine & Beer lasts 55 minutes and says plainly that it serves no cocktails or food. The Sightseeing River Cruise with Unlimited Cocktails costs €27 and is strictly 18+, with a photographer on board.

On the first boat, alcohol is for adults only, and under-18s drink soft drinks. Children aged 0–3 travel free with an infant ticket; from 4 years a standard ticket is needed. The operator of the cocktail cruise also says it can refuse boarding to guests who arrive visibly drunk, without a refund.

Plain sightseeing: cheaper and quieter

If the river and the lit-up Parliament are the point, the €11–€13.36 cruises show the same Danube. The By Night cruise has a panoramic upper deck and a closed lower deck with air conditioning and heating, a bar, and an audio guide in six languages. The paddle steamer has a welcome drink of Tokaj Frizzante or orange juice, a heated deck in winter, and an audio guide you open on your own phone, so bring earphones. Strollers are not allowed on board and can be left at the dock.

The Parliament Panorama Cruise includes no drink. Food and drinks are sold on board.

Dinner cruises

A dinner cruise is a table, a menu and music for two to two and a half hours, not a way to see more of the city. The River Diva buffet cruise includes unlimited cocktails, spirits, wine, beer and soft drinks, but the listing says specific tables and window seats cannot be guaranteed. The candlelit four-course cruise (€110, a different boat from the €66 folk-music dinner in the table) offers a three-course menu for children but no vegan menu, and it is listed as unsuitable for guests with food allergies. The shorter Goulash and Lángos cruise at €49 leaves at 7 pm with a folk ensemble and assigned seats.

The lighting is not guaranteed

Two operators warn about it in their listings. One says the decorative lighting on Parliament and the bridges is set by city and national energy policy and that landmark lighting cannot be guaranteed for any date; another says the illumination of the landmarks may be suspended by the authorities. A third operator writes, on the contrary, that the decorative lights of Parliament, Buda Castle and other buildings have been switched back on since 8 August. If seeing a lit Parliament matters, pick the cruise for its drinks, seating or price, and do not treat the illumination as part of what you buy. You can still see the Parliament from the water in daylight and at dusk. Combine the cruise with an interior visit: see Parliament tickets.

Practical points

  • Arrive 15 minutes early: several boats close the doors at departure time and cannot wait.
  • Cruises run in rain; ask about indoor seating on the unlimited boats, since facilities vary by vessel.
  • The BYOB rooftop cruise at about €11 lets you bring your own drinks and leaves from the Buda side at 6:30 pm, 7:40 pm, 8:50 pm and 9:50 pm.
  • All options are in the Danube cruise category. For a night out that goes beyond the boat, read party boat, pub crawl or Sparty.
